All tunas must be landed with at least the tail and one pectoral fin attached.
Any tuna caught by a hook and not retained must be released by cutting the line near the hook or by using a dehooking device, without removing the fish from the water.
All HMS species, except blackfin tuna, require an HMS Angling Category permit from NOAA Fisheries. Permits are available by calling 1-888-872-8862, or by visiting hmspermits.noaa.gov. No sale permitted for HMS species caught under an angling permit. Additional recreational reporting requirements apply for swordfish, billfish, and Atlantic bluefin tuna.
